Hello All,

I joined the forum back when I got diagnosed with T2 diabetes back in December 2009. It says I last visited in 26-04-2010. (!)

Well, things haven't really changed for the better. I was prescribed Metformin at the beginning of the week and am now no longer just diet controlled. I feel I've failed rather badly and feel pretty disappointed in myself.

The doctor says that if I can combine the medication with loosing "several" stone (which would put me at 8 stone(!)) then I should be clear of diabetes and other health issues.

I'm only eating 1500 calories a day, and currently struggling with exercising due to other health issues (depression/anxiety etc). I feel very determined to shed this weight for the sake of the diabetes and for self esteem issues. I could really use some kind of exercise partner/motivator/friend as I think that would really help.

Any advice is always grateful.

Hello Icey, welcome (back). Do have a browse through the Weight Loss threads. There are several of us logging our progress (and the odd setback). I'm also on metformin, started a year ago after several years of neglecting the diet/exercise that I was supposed to be using to control my D. The fact that I had to start taking it gave me the kick required to get me back to what worked for me in the past. My insulin resistance and therefore BG have improved dramatically, so I'm proof (if you need it that) that losing weight can help. Good luck in your efforts. Post any questions you have.

Hi Icey.

You haven't failed by being put on metformin.

You have a wonky pancreas that's failed you.
