Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1.5 LADA
Hi all, been diabetic for about 10 years and I was 28 when I was diagnosed. It was such a shock. Don't think I've still accepted this condition. Going onto the pump has brought up all the uncertainty again. I hate the trial and error way of working, it feels so destabilising. I know I should feel grateful for the pump and being in a first world country, I really am very lucky to be alive, but somehow, I still feel hard done by.

I wonder if this is because I was an adult when diagnosed. Does/did anyone else feel this way?

Sorry for the moaning myrtle message, just looking for some thoughts and words of encouragement from anyone who has been in a similar place. Thanks.

Hello @Ridingtherollercoaster welcome to the forum. It’s is most unusual that no one has replied to your post. So I thought I would give it a bump up.
We have quite a few pumpers on here and more than a few people dx T1 as adults, hopefully they will be along soon .
Have you spoken to your team about how you are feeling .
Just because we are very very fortunate to live in a first world country doesn’t mean that we don’t get low. As with most other conditions Diabetes of any flavour can be hard work as well as darned tricky at times.

Hi Lin

Thank you, have spoken to my team. They are as supportive as they can be with the current demands on their time in this overstretched nhs. I feel bad for taking up their time. So I thought some support here might help spread the load so to speak, they're so busy and I don't want to be labelled the anxious one. X

Hi. They are there to help you, so please don’t feel bad for taking up their time, yes I know they are busy but you are important too.
This is a good place too, the folks here have helped me a lot,

Hi there, I’m new here as well, I was diagnosed as type2 when I was 56years old, turned out it was the wrong diagnoses as I found out when I landed in hospital with DKA when I was almost 60years old, when I have down days I try to remember that I am lucky to have the medication to manage the disease, otherwise I don’t like to think about where I would be, it does impact our lives but we can manage it

Think of it as trial and improvement. Like you I found things more difficult after a while. In the last year I have come to regard D as a very irritating friend who just wont leave me alone. So I have learnt to put up with her and get on with it, but that doesn’t stop me having a good scream at her now and then.

Don’t worry about how they label you. Their job is to help you.
If there is anything specific that we can help with just ask.
