Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi,

I'm a 25 y/o female from Wiltshire, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes at the beginning of November, I started off really well and have lost 2 stone in weight (and dropped a few dress sizes!! Yay!), but have been struggling over Christmas and ever since with eating.

I have my appointment for retinal photos on the 1st Feb, and another appointment with the dietician at the end of Feb. I also have to see my doctor again as he is 'easing' me into diabetes and wants to put me on medication, which doesn't please me much as I have existing medical problems which I have to take tablets for - I'll be rattling in no time!

I'd mainly like food tips and to swop recipes with people and make some 'diabetic' friends - as most of my friends don't really seem to understand very well!

That's all for now, I've waffled enough!

Welcome! Very apt name "Icey"!

Well done with the weight loss. Enjoy the forum, look forward to hearing you post.

Hi Icey, welcome to the forum🙂 The best advice I can offer is to learn all you can so that you are in the best position to understand the treatments your doctor is suggesting. This book is highly recommended by a lot of our members, so it might be a good starting point:

Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker (amazon link)

Have a look in the recommended books section or recipes, and please do post your own favourites!🙂

Another good read is the Collins Gem Carb counting book. Price is less than three quid including postage.

Here's a picture and link from Amazon.

Carb Counter: A Clear Guide to Carbohydrates in Everyday Foods (Collins GEM)

Thank you for the warm welcomes and the book suggestions - I will get ordering and reading.

I'm sure things will get better now Christmas is out the way 🙂

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else suffer very bad dry/cracked feet due to diabetes? Mine are awful and I'd appreciate any tips or advice *blush*

hello,
wash your feet every day, rub off dry patches with a foot file thingy and lather with E45 cream ( you can get big tubs on prescription).
keep moist - Don't let broken skin develop.
make sure your feet are checked at your M.O.T.s ( e.g. with tuning fork or neurosthesiometer). Your big toe should be a bellweather signal for peripheral neuropathy.
See a podiatrist regularly - should be set up as part of your diabetic care.
