Welcome 🙂Hi Everyone, new to the page sadly not new to diabetes, I have been a type 1 Diabetic for 23 years now. hope everyone is controlled and healthy.
Hey and thank you,Hi and welcome.
How do you manage your diabetes (MDI or pump) and which insulin(s) do you use?
Many of us are a bit wary of using the word "control" in respect of diabetes because it is so variable and fickle and contrary. The best we can do is "manage" it to the best or our ability. There are too many of the 42 variables which affect BG that we have no control over. That said things are ticking along reasonably well for me at the moment thanks.... Hope I am not tempting fate in saying that!
Hope the "diabetes gods" are being kind to you at the moment.
Is there anything particular which brings you to the forum at this time? If you have any questions, feel free to ask them as there is a wealth of knowledge and experience here on the forum.
I am very excited for it but nervous too , that's amazing!! Glad I can provide the reminder.Oh wow! Good luck with that! Rather you than me as they say! My Aunty did one to celebrate her 80th birthday! She was a real inspiration for living life to the full and positive thinking. Nice to have a reminder of her. Wishing you every success with it.
Are you on a closed loop with your Omnipod yet? I think the Omnipod 5 loops with the new Libre 2+ which is just being rolled out.
Personally I like MDI with Levemir and Libre 2 and can't see my management improving with a pump or HCL. I am the same with cars. I prefer a manual to an automatic. Must say that Libre has revolutionised my management though and I really love it, so not a complete technophobe.
That's amazing to hear that the angst is being relieved. I can also understand the issues that occur with night time, always seems to either jump in the morning or drop throughout the night no matter what changes I make.I think with split dose Levemir and probably Lantus, you need to be prepared to adjust it and understand how to adjust it for your body's needs. In the same way as you adjust your basal profile with a pump. It is rare that I have a week or even a few days sometimes, when I don't need to adjust my night time dose particularly, to account for exercise etc as I have a tendency to nocturnal hypos after exercise and my overnight needs are already pretty low normally.
I think Libre allows us to see what is happening much better and learn to make those adjustments, but there is always an element of guesswork or intuition and we all get that wrong from time to time, but I have learned to accept that that is part of the game and now that I have Libre I do view it as more of a game and I "play" to improve my TIR and get a personal best when I get near to my current one. It has taken a lot of the pressure and angst out of my diabetes management.
I haven't been advised anything about a Docs yet, but will be prepared now for it so thank you! I am both nervous and excited so I will keep all up to date with what's happening.Welcome @T1DGinge and good luck for your sky dive.
I did one (or as I call it "jump out of a plane with a man strapped to my back") a few years ago and it was amazing. The skydive part was strangely peaceful and nowhere near as "steep" as I expected.
I remember I needed a doctor to sign off to say I was safe to do it "despite" having diabetes. I can't say the doc was happy to do it - he said something about having to take all the risk while I have all the fun! Humbug! I definitely had fun.
It was in the small print of he document I had to sign from the skydiving company.I haven't been advised anything about a Docs yet, but will be prepared now for it so thank you! I am both nervous and excited so I will keep all up to date with what's happening.
I would assume something like that tbh, I will get it looked into because its not due till next year, so might need to do it closer to the timeIt was in the small print of he document I had to sign from the skydiving company.
I suspect it is related to their insurance.
