Hi
I’m new here I’m Debs and have type 2 had a significant change of meds
My sugars are more under control now
Just hate having to do finger pricks 4 times a day

What do you hate about it? What fingerprick device are you using? Many like the accuchek fastclix as being painless

Welcome @Debs0709

Glad to read that your sugaras are better now.
I must confess that I never talk about "controlling" my sugars. When there are so many things that can affect them, I think it is about as likely to control then as to control a toddler.

I remember when I was first diagnosed and finger pricking felt like such an inconvenience even though it only took a couple of minutes.
Over time, I got used to it and was pricking 10 times a day without really thinking about it.

Hi @Debs0709 and welcome to the Forum 🙂

We're sorry to hear you're finding finger prick testing quite hard to deal with at the moment. You may want to take a look through the replies on the following thread for some suggestions to reduce pain from finger prick testing: https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/threads/times-to-do-blood-sugar.102020/#post-1197202

You could talk to your healthcare team about this too, to get some professional support, and discuss monitoring methods with them.

We also have some general information about testing to manage your diabetes on the Diabetes UK website, linked here: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/testing?

If you feel like sharing any more about the new medication you're taking, and how you're finding it, this helps us support you with more specific advice.

Please do ask any questions you may have - we always say that there's no such thing as a silly question, and the community here are always happy to help 🙂

Thank you
I use fastclix I’ve got it set too 1.5 my poor fingers are so sore from doing them

Metformin 1g x2 daily
Dapaglifozin 10mg x 1 daily and
Gliclazide 160mg x2 daily

Ok 🙂 Well, it helps to see the blood tests as for you not for anyone else. You’re doing them for your own safety (Gliclazide can cause hypos) and so that you can learn more to help you control the diabetes 🙂 They’re your tools🙂

Thank you

Are you using the sides of your fingers? Also, are you pressing? You don’t need to press - just hold the pricker against your finger. Don’t squeeze your fingers hard either because that will make them sore as well. Gently pressing and ‘milking’ the blood out is best.

Try 1 if 1.5 is too much.

Do you need it on 1.5? I’ve never needed above 0.5!

Yes I’ll try 1

ive put it down too 1 and it’s better

Hate to say this cos I'm one of the world's worst at actually doing it, these days, but despite that, having been multiple daily fingerprick testing since the late 1970s, my Fastclix is on 0.5. Look after those fingertips! Give em a regular thorough soapy scrub with a decent nailbrush. Apply decent handcream of your choice regularly. You're aiming for 'soft as a baby's bum' here!
