Hiya.*

I must first apologise as I'm sure I already signed up here but can't remember my user id let alone passwords. And i must have more email addresses than we've all had injections combined so it's nigh on impossible to find out who I am. A problem I've had on a Friday night more than I care to go into!

None the less, I'm a new user - as ThunderBolt*at least.*

I've been a type 1 since 79 when I was 5. I was probably better behaved then as well, even if I was one of the "Mam & Dad look after it" brigade. I've used every device I can think of starting with the glass and steel syringe and "wee test" then onto plastic. From there the 2nd gen pump to Novopen1 (which I liked and trusted a lot more than later pens) to Novopen 1.5 then 2 (which I bloomin' hated) then 3 and now 4. For some odd reason I still have everything I ever used tucked away in cupboards here there and everywhere. Maybe one day they'll do a special edition of Antique Roadshow!?!

My control over the past ten years or so has been iffy to say the least. No hypo signs, loads of highs, loads of lows and a Hbc that's neither use nor ornament as the averages pan out to look far far better than I'm really doing. I've been trying to get back on a pump for ages and told NO. Even when I did the DAFNE course. Seemed a bit odd to me that the doctors said it'd be pointless when I knew I was better back then than now but thought they knew best. After the DAFNE follow up though the teachers there now seem to agree and I've to go and see them about it soon. I reckon they're just pinching my ideas... Heheh!

Having looked at some of the info on the new pumps though, I'm a wee bit weary as they're a far cry from the one twist for basal and one push for feeding time that my old pump was... We'll see... Worth a crack!

Right then. All done...

As intros go that's a blinkin' stonker. Sorry folks. Heheh!!!

Hi & welcome Thunderbolt (and whatever else you've been called over the years...)
Interesting to hear about earlier days of insulin injection devices and pumps. I know how lucky I am to have been diagnosed 15 years ago as an adult, so have had the benefit of missing teenage rebellion phase (at least for diabetes), having free needles, pen devices, MDI etc, although I can remember people having to pay for their disposable syringes, needles etc from nursing mid 1980s at start of AIDS, which caused some of the changes.

Hey there and welcome to the forum ... fantastic to have you onboard!! XxXxX

Ta very much everyone...
