Hi evo, welcome. If you tell us what your downfalls are, maybe we can help you come up with low-carb alternatives. Are you on any medication yet?

Hi evo. it is hard to change overnight but keep trying & you Will feel better. What do you class as bad ? (cakes, sticky toffee pudding c--- are bad). Fish & cellory, raw veg are good. Have a look on comp & "carb values on food" will give you some tips on what to try & cut back, Good luck 🙂

Hi evo welcome to the forum. As leelee says if you post what you eat or what you think your down falls are, there are plenty of excellent people on here who can help.

I have been diabetic for 13 years and food still gets me as the diabetes is an individual thing what might sui one person might not suit another. Its a case of learning what which foods do to you.

Don't suppose you have a meter and test strips as these can be very helpful in identifying what foods do to you.

Hi evo, welcome to the forum 🙂 The main thing you need to consider when choosing a healthy diet for diabetes is the quantity and type of carbohydrates in the food you want to eat. All carbs will raise your blood sugar levels, some faster than others. As has been mentioned, in addition to some general guidelines you can work from, the only real way to find out how well you can tolerate different things is to test, before and after eating.

I would suggest reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, and also getting a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker - these will all help to give you a greater understanding of diabetes and how to manage it well. For some good general principles on selecting food that will have a slow and steady impact on your blood sugar levels have a look at The GL Diet for Dummies. There are links to more good resources in our Useful links thread.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and we will do our best to help! 🙂

Welcome Evo............

You probably understand more than you think, its just you succumb to the joys of food, like the rest of us, from time to time....

Coming here is good start in your mission to get to grips with it all.......:D
