Well those were the words of my GP and not my lovely diabetic consultant...
Well at the beginning of being diagnosed I went through a phase of denial which I didn't think so at the time!!! I left home for uni and ignored my health which was not good and developed ketoacidosis which left me ITU for 2 weeks. On top of this all, with a low immune system already I then got septiceamia (don't ask me how) and was put on a ventilator and was near to be put on dialysis. Bear in mind I was comotosed for 2 weeks so much of it was a blur to me. I was transferred to another hospital with a specialist liver unit as the previous hospital couldn't cope with me; and spent many more weeks recovering. They say I was lucky to be alive...and I think so too!!!
I'm still finding it hard to be the perfect diabetic my GP wants me to be...I always end up sobbing when I leave his office!
