Hey, was diagnosed as type 1 at the beginning of may. I feel I took the news quite well as my grandad has had type 1 for 30 years and controlled it extremely well. Unfortunately he died last week and I now feel completely overwhelmed by it all. I feel like I've lost my confidant who knows what I'm thinking and feeling. I am on 4 injections a day and start education classes next week.

Thanks for reading,

Jenna xx

Hello Jenna and a big welcome to the forum. So sorry you have just lost your Granddad (((((((((hugs))))))))
It's completely normal to suddenly feel overwhelmed by everything, having diabetes suddenly thrust on you and having to stick needles in yourself is quite a shock to the system.
Take one day at a time and you will be fine. Each and everyone of us on the forum are here for you.

Hi Jenna, sorry to hear about your grandad. Good luck with course & welcome

Welcome to the forum, Jenna1988.

Sorry you've had to cope with new diagnosis and death of Grandad so close together.

Glad to hear you're on flexible insulin regime of 4 injections a day, and going on education course so early in diagnosis. Some people never get on education courses, and are stuck of less flexible bimodal insulin for months or years. It's a tough, but manageable condition.

Hi Jenna,

So sorry to hear of the loss of your Grandad. You must feel all over the place right now, losing a relative is hard enough without your T1 diagnosis. Your Grandad sounds like he was a wonderful role model 🙂

I know what you mean about having someone to confide in, someone who "gets it". When my son was diagnosed aged 4 I felt really isolated until I found other parents of T1 children to talk to. Do please feel free to come on the forum and ask any questions you have, or just to sound off when you're having a difficult day! Also, if you don't already have it, I'd recommend this book (don't be put off by the title, it's for all T1's, and written in a very positive helpful style) :

Welcome to the forum Jenna 🙂

Thanks for the support everyone. I'm sure after the class on Friday I will have lots of questions! Thanks for making me feel welcome and not as alone. 🙂
