Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hey, I'm littlemunk and I was diagnosed with Type 1 nearly 3 years ago (jan 2008) when I was in my final year of secondary school. I have just started Uni 🙂 I'm studying physics which I love! :D

I am struggling with my blood sugars at the moment, just when i think i've got them back under control again something happens and I lose it :( It doesn't help that i've just left home. You guys got any tips?

It's great to have found this place 🙂

Welcome littlemunk...........its normal for diabetes to be unpredictable and I often have readings that just don't make sense.....as long as we try our best we can get it spot on MOST of the time.....which is good enough....

What insulin(s) are you on...?

How often do you test....?

Youw will learn a lot here.......

Morning and a warm welcome to the forum litttlmonk

Hi Littlemunk, it's good that you have found this Forum - they are a great lot and any questions are picked up and answered quickly I've found. Also please feel free to have a rant when things aren't going well for you.

Where are you at Uni ? It's one heck of a change from home isn't it and you must look after yourself (It's the Mum in me coming out now !).

The horrid thing about diabetes is that it is so unpredictable and even when you're doing all the "right" things the blasted levels don't always react the "right" way ! 😱

We look forward to chatting to you on here - good luck,

A warm welcome to the forum from a fellow (if 'slightly' older) physics graduate.

I think that you need to investigate a bit of chaos theory in order to get a handle on diabetes. Failing that, a bit of quantum mechanics can be used as some 'light relief'!

Andy 🙂

Hi

Welcome to the forum. I was also diagnosed Jan 08 at the age of 19. I think the main tip if your control is a bit all over the place is to start writing things down basically going back to basics I call it just writting down blood sugar levels and times, carbohydrate's in the meal insulin given etc.

I know it's a real pain but I find it helps me a lot and also it can reassure you that your control isn't as bad as you think it is because it's all written down in black and white. Hope that helps 🙂

Hi littlemunk, welcome to the forum!

Hi Littlemunk,

I've been out my home for a year or so now. What I've found helps alot is keeping in close touch with my care team and asking alot of questions. Test alot as you'll be able to experiment. Carb counting is a great help, I learned before I went to university and it helped alot in keeping half decent control over freshers and my first year prior to going on apump.

Tom
