Hey all I have set up an online petition for my friends little girl Emily to help get funding for her Diabetic pump. If anyone has facebook could you all please come along and like the page if possible?

What's the story so far with the pump - why is she having to wait? I hate to sound so negative but a PCT/consultant probably won't take much notice of people 'liking' a FB page, but I can point you in the direction of some really useful organisations (such as INPUT) who may be able to get the ball rolling for you or help you out with the red tape.

Yes please any help would be very much appreciated, We are hoping if we get enough members we can get a petition up and running as the Manx government is totally different to the U.K, We live on the Isle Of Man.

Emily is insulin dependant, she needs injections everytime she eats or she can cause organ damage or even death, her diet is hard and she hopes for low levels so she can have a treat.... I would love her to have some normality and not worry so much about injections. Like every child she wants to have some fun and having a pump will help make this possible. x

Reading that it sounds as if no education has been given regarding MDI and or carb counting.
I also have to ask why is her diet hard? Someone with diabetes can eat a normal healthy diet which includes treats.
I would also add if her team on the IOM can not teach her or her parents the basics then there's no point in having a pump
Please also note the pump is not diabetic either. It's an insulin pump. 🙂

I've 'met' a diabetic from the IoM before. They don't do carb counting. Very limited facilities medically. They don't really seem to know about MDI very much and in any case, Insulatard etc are a lot cheaper for them to put you on - which counts. Bordering on being nearly as bad as eg Guernsey.

Very difficult - but if INPUT can help I'm sure they will.

From what others have said though, no education has taken place on how to manage her blood sugars on an MDI regime, this has to be given first, mainly as good control may be achieved without the pump and so avoiding expense [not important really but true in the eyes of the money men) and you need to have this knowledge and more to operate the pump......

I hope the ball gets rolling and that education is started..........
