A father who was so ill with diabetes that he could not work has been given a new lease of life thanks to a dog.
Chris Gardner, 31, was a hospital worker but his illness was so severe that even mild exertion could risk sending him into a coma.
His wife, Samantha, 22, also had to give up her job as an admin worker to become his full time carer.
He was diagnosed with diabetes in 2006 but thanks to a dog from charity Medical Detection Dogs is to be given a new lease of life.

Presumably no hypo-awareness? Would love to know more details about his regime and the problems he has encountered. I know the charity have pretty strict criteria before issuing a dog. But needing a full-time carer? Can't play with his child?
