THERE?S hope that some of the 1,700 people in Hartlepool living with a ticking timb-bomb of diabetes they don?t know they have will get help with a unique event.

National health charity Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation (DRWF) will be hosting a Wellness Day for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

The day is open to people living with the condition along with their parents, friends or carers, or anyone with a general interest in finding out more about the condition, including healthcare professionals.

There are 2.8 million people diagnosed with diabetes in the UK and an estimated 850,000 people who have diabetes but don?t know it.

In Hartlepool alone the estimated occurrence of diabetes is seven per cent, but only 5.3 per cent of the population has been diagnosed with diabetes.
