I have just injected Novorapid instead of my Lantus! What the hell do I do? I have never done this before :/

Keep a close eye on your levels to make sure you don't go unexpectedly hypo during night. Not medical so not 100% sure but you might find you need extra novo tomorrow to compensate for lack of Lantus x

Sandy, don't panic! How much novorapid was it? Call NHS Direct and ask for the advice of a medical professional. If it was me I'd eat according to the amount of insulin I'd injected and keep testing at hourly intervals and not go to bed until I was sure that my levels were safe, although it might entail a late night. Are you on your own or do you have someone with you?

Thank you. I am eating lots of bread right now even though I am not in the least bit hungry. Do I still take the lantus though? God I feel really stupid :?

I have a sleeping husband upstairs. Am munching now though. I took 8 units. I was so tired tonight I just didn't think. I don't want to call NHS direct just now as it will just panic me more!

I just wounder why i havnt done that type of thing before now. Have thought i have because you seem to go in "automatic mode" dont you ?😱 At times i have blood test & very short time later i remember what it was 6 hours earlier. Numbers all day long that mean so much !!!

Maybe I have and not realised. And yes we do go on automatic as its such a routine thing, and I am so flippin' tired! Big day at work tomorrow too. I need my sleeeep!

It happens to most of us every now and then, so don't beat yourself up about it. Try to imagine instead that you've just injected so you can eat supper, and eat the amount of carbs that matches 8 units of novorapid for you. Personally, I wouldn't take the lantus, I would wait it out until the morning and may wake up a little on the high side, but better than dropping too low. I'd then call the DSN at the first opportunity in the morning to see whether I needed to take less lantus after missing a few hours of it. Find a good film to watch and keep testing to see what is happening with your levels.

Thank you. I think I have covered my 8u's and need to sleep. I really appreciate your help and can't quite believe in nearly 15 years I've never done this before - but maybe I have. I shall leave out the lantus and see what the readings are in the night/morning. I am so stuffed with carbs!

I don't have a DSN yet, I have an appt to see one next month though thank goodness!

I think I'd be inclined to have half my dose of Lantus in the morning.

I survived the night! I got up in the wee small hours and checked my blood and it was a little high so I took my lantus but a little less.
None of this is helped by my diabetic nurse at the surgery giving me smaller needles and telling me I might need to take less....
Anyway, that's another issue.
Thanks again for your advice. I was quite panicked!
🙂
