Hello, I’m Bethan and my father suffers from type 1 diabetes.

I have been struggling with him in this last week because he’s not eating, he’s losing a lot of weight.

I have rang the doctors and nhs helpline and they did nothing but tell us the obvious. Personally I think my dad needs to go into hospital but he won’t listen to me...

so any help/information would be helpful.

Thank you

Hi @B.Harris Sorry to hear your dad’s not well. Why isn’t he eating? Is he feeling ill and lost his appetite or is it for some other reason?

Can I ask how old he is? Importantly, what’s his blood sugar?

Welcome to the forum @B.Harris
I am sorry to hear how ill your father is.

His loss of appetite and weight loss need not be linked to his Diabetes. His Blood glucose values will help you to know how his diabetes management is working. Do you know how he manages this? If you are worried it would be worth getting another consultation with his GP.

If your father is under the specialist team at the hospital there is likely to be a way of contacting them too about his Diabetes management. A lot of people find that the GP Practices are not familiar with the adjustments tha5 we need to make around this.

Sorry to hear that your Dad is having a tough time @B.Harris

Has be been able to explain why he isn't fancying eating?

Sorry you've not had much in the way of helpful advice from the official channels.

It must be very worrying for you :(

How’s your dad today @B.Harris ? It must be hard for you trying to look out for him and keep him well. If you can give a little more information here you’ll get more tailored advice.

Sending you and your dad my best wishes.
