Hi, trying to help my husband here. He’s been T2 for a few years now and finding it hard to control his blood sugars. Since his last nurse appointment we have made lots of effort in changing our diet to low carb but it hasn’t seemed to make much difference. His pre breakfast readings fluctuate from 7.5 - 9 which we need to improve!
The nurse is looking to reduce his meds hence the change of diet. He has a further appointment in the next couple of weeks.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you

Morning reading often remain stubbornly high but will start to come down if increases in blood glucose from meals are kept within a reasonable amount. It may be worth testing the effect of meals by testing before he eats and after 2 hours when an increase of 2-3mmol/l would be OK but if more than that then reducing portions of any of the higher carb food or substituting for something lower carb.
An understanding of what are high carb foods is important as there can be some misapprehension that it is Total carbs not just sugar that matters.
This link may help you with some ideas for modifying his diet as it is based on real food and is a low carb approach.

Hope his morning readings gradually start to come down into line over the coming weeks.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint 🙂
