Morning second day on bg monitoring and I'm stuck.
Fasting was 6.7
I got up had a 20 min walk with dog and my reading before breakfast was then 8.3 (confused as to why it increased)
Now 2 hours after breakfast it is 8.5
Does this mean breakfast was ok or should it have dropped back down to around 6.
Yesterday my bloods before lunch and tea were 5.8 and 6.1 and then after 7.4 and 6.9 so over 8 seems high

You should be looking for a rise of (ideally) less than 2 two hours after eating and a figure below 8.5. So breakfast looks OK to me. The rise from 6.7 to 8.3 could have been the result of your walk. If you were being brisk then your liver will recognise that you need energy and dump a load of glucose into your blood stream. Alternatively it could have been the result of foot on the floor syndrome. This is a very ancient response where by your body dumps glucose into your blood stream to give you the energy to start the day

Well done on your initial results @Jo121

That response to breakfast looks great! And if only yoir pesky liver has wound it’s neck in you would have been pottering along in the 6s!

To an extent, in the beginning the numbers themselves matter less than the differences between them. Keeping the rises you get from meals to 2-3 or less will allow your overall levels to settle and stabilise over time, and you are doing amazingly at that so far. Well done!

The breakfast readings are often the last to come into line, but don’t panic too much about a few 8s here or there while you are still adjusting. You are doing great.

Pretty well what I thought, you seem to have made good choices for your meals so far. Remember to keep a record of what you have had so you can be confident it will be OK for you next time.
