Relationship to Diabetes
Other Type
Good afternoon everyone.
I’m hoping for some advice. I was diagnosed diabetic March 2018. The diabetic clinic discharged me back to my gp without giving me which type I am. I double checked through all of my letters from them up and including the discharge letter all stated uncertain. I’m currently on oral medicine.
Can anyone offer any advice please?

Hi 🙂 What exact medicine are you on? Did you have any tests done to determine your type eg C Peptide or Type 1 antibodies test? What was your last HbA1C and do you test your own blood sugar at home?

Everything you have said would strongly suggest you are at least being treated as type 2. But there are always exceptions, and there are rarer forms than the two famous ones, so you should ask your G.P.

But for care to be provided by a G.P. rather than a specialist service, and using oral medications rather than insulin, is the normal method of caring for type 2.

Hiya! - a bit ??? not actually knowing what 'Type' you are I agree - and also agrees the treatment you are having sounds much more like type 2 than type 1 - but is there a reason why you are asking right now after a couple of years living with the lack of knowledge - eg. are you having trouble with something, don't feel well ... or what? Has something happened lately that you don't know how to deal with?

I’m currently have a few other things health wise going on. Having tests for lupus. I’ve always managed to keep my blood sugars control since finding out. I’m also the big 40 this year. And thinking about a nice holiday abroad somewhere. I’ve spoken to a few insurance type companies who stated I would need to say what type I am.

Hi Tricia Temperley, welcome to the forum.

It's really not acceptable for you not to be told what type you are. I'd speak with my GP and request they confirm as should anything happen, you'll want to know.

It does sound like type 2 but it's worth getting that confirmed as it could have an impact on your other health concerns.
