Help please!!

I would like to ask for my dad, who has recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, whether there is an NHS service for him to help him manage his diabetes, medicines, lifestyle and get his checks done all at once. He is working 9-5 everyday, so he would rather not come in on many different occasions, as he does not want to take a day off work. If there isn't a service that encompasses everything, what different services are there available to him?
 
Hi @Tashaa1234 welcome. TBH what you are asking makes perfect sense to me. I was diagnosed over 20years ago so I don't really know what the procedures are like for the newly diagnosed now. What I do know is, that in time those appointments will settle down to be a blood test, weight and BP check at one appointment every so many months followed by seeing the practice nurse a week or two later about results, to discuss any problems and any changes in treatment. Your Dads employers are supposed to allow your dad time off for these appointments. I'm retired now but my work involved being away from home for 10-12 hrs a day as I could be working up to 40 miles from my base., so I know it can be difficult especially if employers are less than understanding.

Welcome unfortunately the NHS is not work the same in all areas!
 
What support is there out there for him? Because he's newly diagnosed, all this is quite new and overwhelming for him. He's struggling with watching what he eats and exercise and taking his medicines as directed
 
The level of support varies over the country. In some places there are support groups, however, diabetesuk have a helpline for people with and without diabetes to call with their concerns about diabetes. (0345 123 2399)
