Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, i was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes nearly 2 weeks ago and I have changed my diet since being told.
The doctor advised me to take metformin gradually. One for a week , two second week and then three. I have been on two a day for the last three days and I have been so tired with a huge lack of energy. My legs also feel restless. Has anyone else had these symptoms ? Id rather not take metformin and reverse it through excersise and diet . Please help

Hi Lauren and welcome to the forum.
I only took Metformin for a week or so and it caused me a lot of tummy problems as that’s one of the most common side effects of it. I stopped taking it against the wishes of my DN but have managed without it. There is a slow release version which a lot of people find less troubling so you could give that a try.
Everyone is different of course and it may be that your body will get used to it and be able to tolerate it,like most new medications.
My advice would be to give it a little longer and then talk to the GP or diabetic nurse and see if there’s an alternative. There are other meds out there but it’s whats best for you.
Hope it works out and you feel better soon.

I found that things settled down after the first few months and now I don’t have any problem with it...
