Can anyone tell me wherever I can eat cous cous as type 2 diabetic. Are there any reccommended books with reccommended portions and weights of food. I have been newly diagnosed and naked the life changes starting slowly and safely with my weight.
Unfortunately none of us can answer this for you, ideally you'd want to test before eating and then again 2 hours later looking for no more than a 2-3 mmol rise, we are all individual and tolerate different things so while it may be fine for one, it may not be for another, if you aren't testing your BG at home then there isn't a way for you tell and it's completely up to you how you go about it xx
Search Google for 'cous cous recipes for diabetics' There are several references
Go to Diabetes UK Home Page and -
click on 'Living With Diabetes' There is a lot of info & advice on food & eating
use the Search box for Recipes, and Meal Plans
However, as KAYLZ states, you really need to find out how different foods, and the quantities, affect your blood glucose levels, and the only way to do that is to get a home testing meter
Ask your GP or Clinic if they will supply one
If they won't then I'm afraid you'll have to buy one. Ask about that on a new Thread in the General section
As cous cous is just over 20 percent carb it would not do for me, but you might be able to tolerate a small amount.
For me, as it is made from wheat, it seems a bit of a waste of time, as it has no nutritional benefit. I'd rather have a tasty stir fry.
There is a lot of information in Old Threads
Have a look through Newbies; Food & Carbs; Weight Loss; Recommended Books
These two are useful -
