I am meeting my son tonight for a festive pre christmas meal as we both have the evening free which is a rare occurence for him.

This is the festive menu. I dont like fish or seafood but happy with anything else. Can people tell me the best options for low carb and low cal. If you scroll down and click the drop down arrows next to starters, mains etc it shows the options.

My thoughts are soup but skip the bread, roast turkey and cheeseboard. But I could just have the starter and main or main and dessert. I wish they have the nutrition next to each meal.

I reckon I will be over my calories just by reading the menu let alone eating it, I adore cheese so may have the roast turkey and the cheeseboard or maybe even the soup and the cheeseboard, I wonder if I could choose that as an option and miss out the main.

If it's a Christmas meal, it has to be the Coquilles St. Jacques followed by turkey.
No sweet, I can manage two courses, but not three.
(And just leave the bits you don't fancy.
Any meal is low carb or low calorie that way 🙂 )

You could also enjoy yourself & not worry too much about it but at the same time being mindful about your choices, maybe go a little lighter on Lunch (if not already had) or go easier tomorrow...

This works for me most of the time... Overall during the week as opposed to any one particular day...😉

I cant deal with seafood and Scallops OMG, I remember eating one once, I will retell this as its quite an odd tale.

My 28 year relationship had ended and I was asked on a date by a new man, we were spending time together getting to know each other (and this relates to the other post I made about showers and baths, there is a photo of where we went in that thread), anyway we went on a romantic break and I arrived by train before him as he had to run a youth club that night and would join me at about 9. So I wandered around this amazing hotel alone and found myself in the cocktail bar watching a cocktail making demonstration. This was a very trendy place and the toilets were unisex, when I went in this man made a joke to me about it, I went in and there was a very drunk lady in there who I helped out. It turns out she was his girlfriend, he looked familiar and I couldnt work out why, but realising I was on my own they invited me to join then, we had a few drinks and then they invited me to join them for dinner, I checked with my date but he was running late so agreed. We went to this amazing restaurant and when we went in, all the people rushed up to greet him, this was a little odd, I was striking up a great bond with his girlfriend and they were interested in my date and how we met (thats a story for another time).

Anyway it turned out this was a Channel 4 TV presenter from how to make your first million, I dont watch the show but he looked familiar, then comes the scallop part...he had paid for all this food and I didnt have the heart to say I find eating a scallop like a food challenge from Im a celeb and ate it with a fake smile on my face! I was so proud of myself for enduring that challenge that most would consider a treat. Anyway we got back to the hotel and my date was still not there, so I mentioned to them we had the penthouse suite and there was a fairgound antique horse in the bedroom, they wanted to see it, so I showed them around (apparently snoop dog had the same suite when he stayed - I got it for £99 from Secret escapes so a good deal). They came up and noticed the bath water in the bath, I said I couldnt work out how to let it out, so he put his hand in and let it out for me...his girlfriend giggled and said "I cant beleive you have just put your hand in dirty bath water"

Later my date arrived, and I introduced them, they told him off for leaving me waiting so long, his girlfriend gave me her number and said to keep in touch, muttered she didnt like my date and they left! My date is convinced they had planned to have an evening of swinging but the girl didnt fancy him!! I hope not but anyway thats my scallop story from a decade ago 🙂

This is the room we stayed in 🙂

You have said this is an unusual event, to be able to spend time with your son.

On that basis, enjoy it. I don't necessarily mean fall head first into your Christmas pudding and his (although that's up to you), I mean, make choices you will enjoy.

If you go over your usual personal levels of consumption, you can deal with that in a couple of days, in your own time.

Enjoy!

Yes, the trouble is I have had several unusual events recently, 2 weddings, 2 enagement parties, a christmas pedicure that involved mince pies, prosecco and chocolate, and Christmas is on the Horizon 🙂 For someone who rarely has a social life I seem to be in this position a lot 🙂 x

For me it would be the mushrooms, chicken sewers and the cheese (if I was going to have a 'pudding')
Plus a large glass of Shiraz.

yep wine is a necessary part of a festive menu 🙂

That's why January is boring, so we can diet then.

There is also a 30th birthday celebration in January but I may not be invited 🙂

I am undoubtedly too late..... but for me soup is a bit boring and something that you can have at home anytime, so I resent paying inflated prices in a restaurant for what is usually leftovers.

I would probably skip the starter, although I used to be a 2 starters and a dessert girl because starters are usually more interesting than main courses.... but then I love duck, especially confit duck, so my choice would be skip the starter and have the Duo of Duck. It seems to be served with pureed squash which is lower carb than tatties and green beans for veg, so that should be pretty low carb, followed by the cheese board and I would ask if they could do it with sliced apple instead of biscuits and grapes, but that is just me. If they couldn't, I would just eat the cheese and take the biscuits and grapes home for my chucks, as an early Xmas present.

Whatever you are having or had, I hope you are enjoying your evening with your son. How lovely! XX

I went for the turkey which was 1500 calories but gave 3/4 of the yorkshire, the parsnip and 2 of the roast potatoes to my son, but did enjoy the cheese board and 3 glasses of red wine and a G and slimline tonic! had a great evening, but back on track tomorrow x

Sounds good.
Always remember, you control your diabetes.
Your diabetes doesn't control you.

So I went over my cals by 600 for the day but only had 66g carbs in total, but sadly gained a pound! I think this may be also because I am constipated if thats a thing!

It certainly is.
It's also the weight of about a pint of water, to compare it to a good wee as well.
