Diet always seems difficult for me to keep varied but also maintain a low carb content. I'm struggling for simple ideas for work snacks / meals and could do with some suggestions. I got a surprise when I noticed that the store purchased falafels I'd been eating actually had 25% carbs, like wise morrisons crust less qiche which has in the region of 20% . in an ideal world I'd like to reduce carb content to less than ten percent. Any ideas out with eggs?

My (non-D) wife likes nuts..... For myself either deli meat or full fat cheese (often combined in a lettuce wrap)

Frittata or tortilla, can never remember which is which, one has potatoes in. Anyways the one without tatties! Saute a red onion til soft, add rosemary, a tiny sprinkle of fennel seed. Depending on size of frying pan, add eggs, don't whisk, just break up gently, season, I added peppers I had roasted earlier and tomatoes. You can put whatever in, chorizo is good, but fatty. Cook on heat, freeing sides as you go, finish under grill. I have mine cold for lunch with salad Mr Eggy likes beans. Had it today actually and got enough left to take to work tomorrow. If you want some carbs, saute some cubed potatoes with onions before adding eggs. Yummy!

Out with eggs (Scottish expression, learned from my grandparents 🙂 ) = without eggs (standard English expression).

ooops eggyg LOL

'Tortilla' is merely the Spanish word for an omelette - of any type or description. However a 'Tortilla Espanol' - aka a 'Spanish omelette' rather than an omelette I happened to consume one day in eg Seville - specifically has spuds, onions and garlic in it! Rather like a Lancashire Hotpot, being specifically different to any other hotpot, as indeed would be a Yorkshire pudding! LOL

Yorkshire & Lancashire in the same sentence? The Wars of the Roses were fought for less than that!!!

I'm not sure an idea of eating foods of less than 10% is necessarily the right way to go. What you really need to look at is the total amount of carbs you eat at the meal.

The most obvious 'lunch' meal option would be salad-based - a good Caesar salad with chicken, bacon, parmesan, dressing...very easy to prepare, particularly as you can buy pre-cooked chicken and bacon strips.

If you want more left-field options, you could go for a continental-style breakfast for a meal but without the croissants ie. slices of cheese, ham, salami, olives etc.

Good low-carb snacks include mini cheeses, pork rinds, seeds, nuts, olives

Sorry, someone got that wrong, out with means 'outside' as in out with the village, means everywhere outside the village.

No added sugar Jelly has been a revelation for my newly diagnosed son who's 7! I have to make him a less than 20 carb snack box for his after school club which is a challenge. I was told about this jelly and it's virtually 0 carbs so it's a fab snack for him. He also has a carb free box of peppers/cucumber/cheese and ham so he can graze without worrying about the carbs/injection. Hope that helps.

Out of general laziness/ease of buying my daily routine seems to have settled on a £1 tub of "simple salad" from Tesco & something to go with. I usually choose from cooked salmon, smoked mackerel, chicken, ham, cooked prawns etc. Today I spotted a tub of mozarella balls & sundried tomatoes in olive oil & herbs which was fab, when added to the salad & ham.

If I'm having smoked mackerel, I'll mix up some greek yogurt with english mustard, balsamic vinegar & olive oil to make a dressing.

Mind you, that does add up to 20 quid a month just on the salad. I should probably buy it as separate items & mix my own.

Oh, but there's the laziness...

In the last 6 months (since DX) I have got through more eggs than I did in the previous 40+ years!
Onnelettes, scrambled eggs, boild and mashed with ketchup are my favourites.
I'm going for a high protein & low carb diet (120-120g per day), as too much fat sets off my IBS. I also have to steer clear of sweeteners, mushrooms, green leafy veg, and pastry is a definite no-no.
Crustless quiche is a really great snack option - make some little muffin sized ones with your favourite additives - ham and sweetcorn are brilliant, as is tomato and cheese.

My favourite brekky at the mo is scrambled egg on a slice of ham & a cheese slice. 0 carbs & very filling.
