help I've lost about 5kg in about 4 months I'm not trying to lose weight. I need to put it back on. My hb1ac in March was 80 I've just seen nurse and she thinks I need back ground insulin as I carnt seem to get my levels down.
I've seen the dietitian and all she said was full fat milk plenty of cheese and full fat yogurt but having them seem to put my blood sugar up. My blood sugars are about 10 when I test even after a good walk and only shredded wheat and a cup of tea for breakfast.they use to be always between 5 and about 8

I need to put weight on as I've had a kidney transplant and carnt go to low.
I'm 61kg now was 66kg at the moment I'm on 120 mg glicazide twice a day

Cheese shouldn't affect BG levels at all. Milk does contain lactose which affects some people more than others. A full fat natural Greek yoghurt should be fine as they are relatively low in carbs.

Really sorry to hear about your weight loss @Ibby :(

As Mark says, you should be able to increase good, natural fats (including saturated fats) without raising your BG or causing any health problems.

Additionally adding good fats can slow down the absorption of carbs which may allow you to include the carb-fat combo that can increase weight.

It may also be helpful to make sure you are taking in enough protein and the vitamins and minerals which can help with food uptake.

Sorry to hear the dietician you saw wasn’t all that helpful - maybe they are not used to seeing people with diabetes struggling with weight loss?

Shredded wheat took my BG from 6.1 to 11.7. What happened if you have eggs and bacon for breakfast.

If you need insulin then that limits advice I can give.

Generally members here try to opt for foods which have had the least ‘messing about’ on the whole - the ones with the fewest ingredients. So butter and cream rather than ‘spreads’.

Peanut butter sounds good, though there are ones which have fewer ingredients there too. I choose the whole earth ones which are mostly peanuts with a little oil and no sugar. I’m not sure what others think about peanuts. I get in well with them but as a legume rather than an actual nut some peeps might steer clear.

Cheese should be good too I think. Plus meats, and eggs?

When you say full fat milk 'does you no good' what actually do you mean? Does it make you ill, or what?

Do you actually limit the amount of carbohydrate in your diet?

I used to get the Meridian one which was peanuts with a touch of salt. I now get the Morrisons own brand 100% peanut one (yes, peanuts and nothing else). £1.78 for 340g. Carbs are 12.2g per 100g or as it says on the jar 1.8g CHO per 15g tablespoon. i.e. very little. Requires stirring though.

I don't know I've never had bacon and eggs , may be have to give it a try.

@ trophy wrench I've only just started having full fat milk on bfast and after eating and a good walk test and blood sugars are still about 10 but when I have semi skimmed milk and a good walk blood ranges 5 to 8 doing the same walk

Hi. Have you considered that you may be a late onset T1 (LADA) and not T2. being slim, losing weight and having high blood sugar are pointers to LADA. I would ask for the two tests for T1.

I'm under the hospital for my diabetes but might be worth mentioning to then. Although my anti rejection drugs for my kidney transplant do have the side affect of diabetes so wonder if this is why.
More testing and then seeing nurse again
