Hi. I'm Type 2 & have been on insulin for about 3 years. When I moved from Hampshire to Devon in december 2023, I was switched from Abasaglar to Lantus as this is what they prescribe here. Unfortunately, I'm having a problem with no Lantus flexpen stock being available at Boots which is my local pharmacy that i switched to after various stock issues with the pharmacy attached to my gp practice. It was ordered on Monday and they are still waiting for it, even though they re-ordered on Thursday. The problem is that I don't have any left after this morning's dose! With it being Sunday tomorrow, they won't get a delivery. What do I do?

Ask at a different pharmacy to see if they have it in stock?

Ive tried that. None of my local pharmacies keep it in stock, they all order it in for each prescription. :( I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will come in this afternoon

You may find that if you stick to the same pharmacy, that they will keep it in stock for you. As you know that they order them in for each prescription you can help by ordering your insulin early. Not a bad idea anyway as it can be very stressful when there are any delays.

Are you using a reusable pen? With those the the vials take a lot less storage space then the disposable ones. This is particularly useful when going away, also better for the environment, and some of the shortages only apply to the disposable pens.

Thank you for responding. I've just heard from Boots and my prescription is ready to collect thankfully. I ordered it last Friday & it was sent through to Boots on Monday. One week is normally plenty of time but I think in future I'll make it 2 weeks. I use the pre-filled pens for Lantus & Novorapid. I have an appointment with the diabetes team in a couple of weeks and will ask about vials, thanks for the suggestions :D

Glad that your prescription arrived.

I used the wrong word. For the reusable pens you need the pencil cartridges, but your DSN will know what you need.
