Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi,
I have had type 2 for approx 4 years.
I still have not come to terms with this.
I am on insulin and should take Metformin but keep forgetting.
My diet is terrible and I am constantly hungry.
I also forget to test my blood
I know I am not doing myself any favours.
I need help in taking this condition seriously but just dont know where to start.
Please help

Hi tinty, welcome to the forum 🙂 I'm glad you have joined because that's a big step towards getting things on track. Diabetes can be very isolating, so it's good to talk to other people who are in the same boat, and you'll find lots of friendly, knowledgeable people here who will try their best to help you succeed 🙂

I would recommend starting by getting a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. You may be 4 years down the line, but you are making a new start, so look to the future and not to the past. I would also recommend reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter.

What insulin are you on?

im on Lantus

I would recommend testing your levels before bed and when you get up in the morning to try and determine if your dose of lantus correct. Also, regarding your diet, it's worth starting a food diary, recording everything you wat and drink, paying particular attention to the amount of carbohydrate consumed. It might sound like a bit of a pain, but it can really help you to find areas where you might be able to make changes or substitutions so that your diet is kinder to your blood sugars. 🙂

Thank you for the advice.
I have ordered the book and will read the articles.
I just seem to have lost my way and need to face reality

You will get there, keep posting and let us know how things are going so we can give you plenty of encouragement! The really unfair thing about diabetes is that, when your blood sugars aren't great, it affects your moods too, so it's hard to get motivated, but once you do start improving things and getting into a habit you will start to feel tons better 🙂

Don't forget that regular exercise can help enormously with your levels, as well as your general feeling of well-being, so if you can get something in each day it will be well worth it 🙂

Hi Tinty
