Does anyone have a child that suffers with ADHD, as my daughter has become extremely aggressive and violent since taking insulin over the last 2 weeks. Would really be grateful for some help and advice. Thanks. Jane

Hi and welcome to the forum.🙂

I dont have experience with ADHD in children - but do you think your daughter could be suffering from the effects of high sugars? When was she diagnosed? When levels are high this can make people feel very frustrated and sometimes angry - they cant help it and feel 'out of control'. Sorry for the questions - but it will help others to help you.🙂Bev

Hello Bev, thanks for your reply. This is what is really strange, as my daughters levels are generally under 4. But even when they do go up to 7, which is the most they go up to, her behaviour is still the same. The other thing is, that she has completely lost her appetite. She is on Novomix 30. Thanks Jane

Hi Jane,
If your daughters levels are generally under 4 - this may have something to do with it. She will most likely feel shaky and unable to concentrate and can also have an effect on appetite. Have you spoken to your diabetes team about these issues? I think she may be running too low.🙂Bev

Hello Jane and welcome to the forum. Your daughter's blood sugars sound a touch low and could mean she is running borderline hypo a lot of the time. The effects of "going hypo" vary between people but there may be confusion and/or agression besides other symptoms such as shakiness/sweating/general weakness/etc. Have you checked her BG meter against the DSN's in case it is reading a bit high?

All Type I's start on the synthetic insulins these days. This suits 99.999% of individuals. I have come across one case, in an adult, where they were changed to porcine insulin because of excessive moodiness. The moodiness then went. This may be worth raising if the BG's are generally fine and the problems continue. Depending on your cilinic they may be very reluctant to try this!
