Hi Sarah, welcome to the forum 🙂 How did your diagnosis come about? Don't worry, there is a lot to take in at first, but there is a lot you can do for yourself to improve your situation. I'd recommend reading Maggie Davey's letter for starters, and get yourself a copy of the excellent Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. These should help you to understand what it is all about 🙂

Chiefly, what you need to be aware of is your carbohydrate consumption. All carbs will raise blood sugar levels, not just sugary, sweet things, but things like bread, potatoes, rice, pasta etc. I'd suggest starting a food diary and recording the amount of carbs, in grams, in everything you eat and drink. This will give you a good start to assess your current consumption and look for areas where things might be improved, by reducing or replacing things.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, and we will do our best to help! 🙂

Hello Sarah, welcome to the forum. 🙂

Don't panic, you'll soon get the hang of it. Lower carb food and sensible portions is the way to go. Get a Codefree meter and measure your bg (blood glucose) to see what foods you can tolerate. It's all very interesting. I can't tolerate rice, potatoes, pasta, porridge, bananas etc. You live and learn.

Welcome to the forum.🙂

Hi Sarah.

It will definitely get easier. The past couple of weeks have been the first time I've begun to feel comfortable with my new diet and the way things are, but it's taken a while. There's loads of great advice here in the forums. Even though I got good support from my doctors and nurses, I've filled in a lot of the gaps by reading in here and asking questions.

Hello @Sarah1967

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but glad you found the forum. Lots of friendly support here.

Stick around and ask all the questions you have - someone is almost bound to have been there before you and there's no such thing as a silly question here 🙂

Hello and welcome 🙂 you might find the latest Carbs & Cals book or app helpful.

Hi Sarah and welcome.🙂 I LOVE your hair!😛
