I'm newly diagnosed type 1 and I am on my third week of insulin. Does anyone have any tips for avoiding bruising? I am getting some nasty looking bruises following injecting TIA

Welcome to the forum 🙂

What length needles are you using? Using needles that are too short or too long can cause issues

Hi @A@my! It's great to see you've joined the online forum. Sorry to hear that you have been having some bruising. Someone will be able to give you some advice on the best thing to do! 🙂

Hi and welcome.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It's a bit of a shock to the system isn't it!

Which insulins are you using and which brand of needle. I have gone through phases of bruising and there was never any real rhyme or reason to it. Not sure if I don't notice anymore or I have less of a problem with it now. I tend not to look too closely these days, just expose a new patch of skin and inject into it.
Do you pinch up to inject or not? Just wondering if that might play a part in it.
I think some people may just be more prone to bruising than others but you could ask to try a different brand of needle and see if that is any better.

i'm using 4mm needles those are the ones that were prescribed to me. Thank you for responding!

Two tips to stop bruising, use new needle each time & dont use insulin straight out of fridge, in use insulin should be room temp.

Hi 🙂 Where are you injecting? I find I often bruise if I inject in my stomach. It doesn’t matter what I do, I just bruise easily there. So it’s my least favourite site. If you’re using your thighs, look and try to avoid any obvious capillaries, etc.

Also, I ‘pinch up’ and that helps a lot too.
