Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all,

Diagnosed with T2 on Thursday with a HbA1c of 49mol. Previous HbA1c was 46 back in February. Still a bit shocked.

I work away a lot all over the world, I was away between the HbA1c tests. Somewhere not pleasant where the food is best left un-disclosed.

Anyway after reading the kindle version of Professor Roy Taylor's book on reversing Type 2 yesterday.

I have decided to do the three step diet.

I don't smoke or drink anymore and have not for a long time.

However as a male @110KG and only being 176cm tall. I am hopeful that I can put this diagnosis into permanent remission.

I guess the first thing to accept is that this will be something I need to work at for the rest of my life.

Being an ex rugby player I was never what you would call a racing snake. Even in my 20's and in the military I hovered around 13 to 13.5 stone. So not sure I'll get down into the 75kg region that the ideal BMI tables suggest for my height.

But we can but persevere.

You sound like you have your plan sorted how to address your diabetes @Flipper687. You've only just tipped over past the diagnosis point of over 47mmol/mol, so hopefully there's not too far to travel to get back to where you want to be.

I also read Roy Taylor's book and it inspired me to go on a diet and lose 16Kg, which I'm happy about, but not complacent as I have another 24kg to go... I got my HbA1c down from 82 at it's highest to 42 in February, and am hoping it's stayed there or lowered next time I get it checked.

You can do it, follow the advice of Roy T and you're giving yourself the best chance you can of pushing your diabetes back.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on, Sarah

I agree 100% with my fellow Sarah @Windy I’m slightly different female age 38 5ft size and last September was diagnosed with an hba1c of 89! So in a much worse position then than you are now, since September I’ve lost 5st and my hba1c is now 38, this can totally be done I won’t lie I still struggle with my emotions over being diagnosed with type 2 but I’m in a much better place now than I was back in September x

Welcome to the forum @Flipper687

With an HbA1c of 49 you are only just over the threshold for a diagnosis with diabetes. It is quite likely that a few fairly modest adjustments to your menu and a little weight loss could substantially help your metabolism keep BG levels on the straight and narrow.

However it sounds like you are looking to take a slightly more full-on strategy! We have had a few members who have embraced Dr Taylor’s approach to try to turn their diabetes around - with good effect. Hope it works well for you.

Let us know how things go 🙂
