There's something else wrong with you re the weight gain, smelling vinegar, breathlessness and such ridiculously high BG. Ring the doctors in the morning!

Welcome to the forum @Mimi61059

How long have you been diagnosed?

Sorry to hear about your high glucose levels. Do you have a means of checking ketone levels? The breathlessness could be quite serious alongside your high BG levels. If you experience vomiting, abdominal pain, or smell ‘pear drops’ please consider calling NHS111 or possibly visiting A&E.

Are you also taking a mealtime insulin along with your background insulin?

I can only echo what @trophywench and @everydayupsanddowns have said and if you smell pear drops like Mike has said or nail varnish remover- Just incase you don’t know what pear drops smell like (I don’t, is that only me???)

I don’t, is that only me???
It seems quite possible that some comparison smells and tastes could do with updating for people not born in the last millennium 🙂

Anyone my age (from this country, anyway) would immediately know (even if they didn't like the things), but likely they're no longer so common. (I'm sure they're still available, but so much more is nowadays and fashion changes.) (I used to buy some sugar free versions occasionally, though the sweetener was one of those that discourages eating too many at a time. Haven't bought any in ages.)

Are pear drops those type of old sweet shops sweets? And err… unfortunate that so many nice sweets have them sweeteners

Yes, exactly that. So (a few decades ago) they were one of the sweets you might ask for a few ounces of from one of those large jars, and the shopkeeper would scoop up some, weigh it, and put them in a paper bag.

I understand that now

Hi Mimi61059

How are things today? Did you contact 111.

As a T1 it is important that you have access to a means of measuring your ketone levels. These can develop quickly when we are I’ll and it is important to keep them under control. It is well worth talking to your team about this and how to make adjustments to you insulin doses.

I understand that now

As an aside, they tasted absolutely nothing like pears.

But that didn’t matter because they tasted bloomin lovely!
