Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi I'm completely new to forums, iv been type2 diabetic for 10 years, half of that in denial I also suffer from IBS and lactose intolerance most meds severely hurt my stomach I'm currently on victoza and gliclazide but still not stable . I finally decided to join as I'm at a complete loss with food and I have children with additional needs to look I want to be a healthy me 🙂

Welcome @Clare2790 🙂 If you tell us what you can eat and/or what an average day’s food would be for you, then you’ll get some helpful suggestions.

Thank you so far iv found high fiber foods trigger IBS especially bran cauliflower, hummus, sweet potato, cabbage, sprouts, dairy products ,crackers, crumpets and some red meats I'm still trying to find what sets it off but those I can not have any of currently I'm eating lasagne chips ,pasta and sauce, curry rice, eggs jacket potato chilli, soups ,chicken carrots peas green beans and I do snack on crisp, and I'm a suckered for chocolate I can do well but I do eat it when I feel down then feel even worse most fruit veg and salad effects my ibs but I do try eat small amounts I'm not sure if anything there is any help I seem to binge when I'm feeling low about it all which makes no sense also waiting to be assessed for asd

It must be hard with so many vegetables affecting you. Usually I’d recommend upping the green veg, but obviously you should be very cautious about that. Most Type 2s find they have to watch the amount of carbs they eat - all carbs not just sugar. So for a traditional roast meal, say, they’d have no potatoes or one or two maybe, then a good amount of meat and extra veg.

I’ll tag @Leadinglights because they’re Type 2. Generally, you’ll have to watch your pasta portions and your chip portions. Jacket potato can be a bit difficult because it has lots of carbs and is generally absorbed quickly, which can put your blood sugar up.

Hi, yes I am Type 2 but don't have the issue of managing IBS as well. I have heard from others that reducing their intake of carbohydrates helps their IBS symptoms.
Many of the foods you are having are high carb so that is probably not helping with your blood glucose levels.
You could try some of the alternative pastas made from edamame bean or black bean as they are a lot lower carb than standard pasta.
I think to start with to just try to reduce the portion size of the high carb foods and increase the veg that you can manage. If you eat fish then that is low carb as are most meats.
There are a few people on here who have IBS but I suspect it is one of those things which is very variable in what people can tolerate so people have to find the right balance for them.

HI Clare2790, Welcome to the forum.

Diabetes alone can be tricky to manage let alone with IBS thrown into the mix.

It sounds like such a tricky circumstance to navigate as being type two will mean that your diet is also quite important. The best meal plan is that one you'll stick to so would it be possible to make a list of things you like and things that you know are good for you and build your meals around that?

It may be the case that you will need to speak with a dietician and do some form of elimination process so you can figure out what the triggers are. Hopefully once you have a better idea of what works for you you can find some alternatives that meet your needs.
