Hi
I was dx T2 in October 2004 with A1c of 12.3, realise now had D for 12 months prior to dx & even though I was telling doc is was seeing (for high B/P) my symptoms she ignored them/me.
For 3 years or so just took pills, kind of took on NHS recommended diet and got on with life - although did lose sweet tooth which helped.
A1c went back up to 10.3 in Feb '08 so decided that I had to do something - did research on web and decided in July '08 that I would get a meter and eat to my meter - managing my carb intake and testing, testing, testing.
The best thing I ever did.
At my last clinic visit, 2 weeks ago, my A1c was 5.8 down from 7.7 in July 08 (No I don't have hypos and high spikes)
I have lost 5k (11lb) in weight
My BP was 125/80 - down from 140/86
Cholesterol was 3.2
LDL 1.4
HDL 1.3
Chol/HDL Ratio 2.5
Trig 1.1
I am sooo pleased and the nurse was too.
Jenny
