Some folk on here suggest you warm your fingers first. Maybe dipping them in warm water first?
A lot of the time I don't have access to warm water... or water at all sometimes if I am out walking/running but then I don't need it as I never have a problem getting blood and as I said, I just wipe away the first drop to reduce the risk of any contamination as an alternative to washing.

When I used to help students get a blood sample, sometimes the blood did not come out straight away so you did another prick and blow me it poured out of the first hole. Always hold your hand down so hand below your heart.
Mind you we were trying to get more than 20 times more blood out than you need for the blood glucose monitor. The monitor needs 0.5 microlitres (a very small drop) but we needed 200 microlitres for the DNA analysis
