I found this forum by reading in another diabetes forum. I can always use more information, as information can help me to lower my numbers - which seem to bounce all over the place.

I am a T2 on Janumet 50/1000, and Humalog 75/25 mx - 74 units 2xd but as soon as my next perscription from the clinic comes in I will be starting on a basal/bolus routine. Lantus will start at 20u at bedtime, and Humalog rapid will be 15 units 3x daily at meals - to start. Have a correction of 1 units for every 50 pts above 130, just the 15 if between 80 and 130, -1 unit if between 70 and 80, and no insulin at meal if below 70. I'm in the US, if you can't tell by the numbers. Hope that doesn't get me booted out.

Welcome @2sweet4me 🙂 I think you’ll find basal/bolus more flexible than the mixed insulin. It’s so much easier to be able to adjust the insulins separately.

Do you eat set amounts of carbs for your meals?

Hi @2sweet4me, welcome to the forum. Don't worry about being in the US, we have waifs and strays from across the world on the forum, as far as Australia, all are welcome 🙂

You will have to learn how to vary your bolus according to the carbohydrates in the meal you are about to consume, but I'm sure your clinic will guide you through that path. And get yourself a book called Think like a Pancreas, by Gary Scheiner (he's American, too). Available, inevitably, from Amazon. That will help you along the insulin adventure, as will sticking with this forum, because there are hundreds of years experience among our members with T1s and T2s who have been put on insulin who will always be happy to answer any questions or worries that you have. We've all started out knowing as much as you do, so there are no silly questions you can ask, because we've all asked them.

Best of luck with your switch to the basal/bolus regime, and, as I've said, there's always someone to answer your queries here, specially for your middle of the night worries🙂

Welcome to the forum @2sweet4me

Glad to have you here, and I hope we can help as you transition to a basal:bolus insulin regime. Hopefully you will find it more flexible and adaptable - but it will take some getting used to, of course.

Keep asking questions, and let us know how things are going. We won’t have any experience of insurance matters or copays, and we’ll have to divide your numbers by 18, but as @mikeyB says, members here will be only too willing to share their experiences, and answer any questions you have 🙂

I was but between the premix and some days dropping into the 50's, my NP wants me to up my carb amounts some and reduce my premix by 2 every 3 days until I have no lows for 3 days in a row. You're right about being able to adjust better separately. I have had some days when I just want to chunk everything in the trash and just say to h*ck with it all. But I can't do that as I am also my Mom's full-time caregiver.

Thanks for the welcome! I plan on getting the book, at least the printed one. I may get the Kindle also, if they have one. May order it this coming weekend, as my birthday is Saturday.

That is the main thing I dislike about the premix insulin - I feel like it is controlling when I take it, when I eat, what I eat (or don't eat). I get help from the drug companies for my insulins and Janumet, and also have other prescriptions that I pay $5 a month for. I have mySugr on my phone, and I pay $49 a month for the Pro bundle. I got a Accu Check Guide Me meter and unlimited strips since I am on insulin. They replenish once every 3 months, and they can tell how many I use and when I need a new shipment. I also have a diabetes coach.
