Hi folks
I’ve been type 1 52 years.
Pumping for the last 12. Recently upgraded to the Medtronic 780.
Trialing CGM with the option of self funding if all goes well.
Have used Libre Miao Miao and smartwatch before this
Lots to learn and looking forward to getting to know everyone

Welcome to the forum @Bluesky

You have certainly got a few years under your belt with T1. Great to have your experience on here.

I switched to a 780 at the start of this year, and using it with self funded sensors. There were quite a few difficulties at the start but now enjoying having to think a lot less about my Diabetes. We’re you on Medtronic pumps before this one too?

With the closed loop overnight works brilliantly, correcting any mis calculations of carbs or late snacks, and then settling into a line around my target levels. I was wondering about how it would manage the meals for which I used dual wave but with the auto corrections it seems to deal with those too. Still puzzling over different levels of exercise but getting things sorted.

I look forward to hearing how you are getting on with it.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
Well I survived the night lol
I’ve always used Medtronic pumps. I nearly went for the Omnipod this time but decided to stay with a tubed pump as that really doesn’t bother me at all.
Very interesting looking at what my BG was up to during the night.
My set up was completed via zoom which was ok but I guess I’m going to have to sit on my hands and wait and see what the data shows after a few days.
Quite hard to leave the pump to it but I need to trust it.
Will see what today brings ……

That difficulty trusting the pump is so familiar

It is only since using this I realise just how much I was automatically doing day by day.
As someone said to me ‘you have ‘employed’ the pump so let it get in with its job’
There are still things to do, but over the six months I am trusting it more and more and doing less and less.
The pump does alarm unexpectedly but I am getting to understand the cause, and where I can’t avoid these I console myself that it is checking as it is keeping me safe.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi and welcome from me too. I'm just 50 years behind you with my diabetes experience! I'm happy with MDI for now and I love the flexibility of my split dose Levemir as I have quite a varied routine so it needs a bit of tweaking most days. The tech to help us now is amazing though and I love my Freestyle Libre. I read lots that you guys post about pumps and it is fascinating but not in any way tempted as yet.
Anyway, great to have your wealth of experience added to the forum and hope you gain from that of other people here. It is a fantastic resource.

@rebrascora Don’t feel that a pump is the ultimate answer. There are pros and cons to everything. If MDI is working for you, then that’s all good 🙂

Yes I am more than happy to muddle along as I am and would certainly not want to take up funding for a pump which could be offered to someone more in need of it than me.... and I hate the environmental as well as financial impact. I hate that about the Libre but it really is worth compromising my principles for.
I also think it would be much harder for me to program a pump because of eating low carb and not having any set routine with meals. Some days I just pick at things and correct later for the protein drift rather than actually have set meals and bolus. I am rather haphazard but I've pretty much got the hang of dealing with it.

A pump allows you to eat when you want and bolus what you want, including for no carb or very low carb meals. It also allows you to extend your bolus over a number of hours and to choose other bolus types too. So it’s very flexible and could deal with any way of eating really. The cons are more things like having to fiddle around changing cannulas, poor sites, and an increased risk of skin reactions and abscesses. The ‘having it attached all the time’ thing isn’t a con because you soon don’t even notice it, but it’s often what people imagine is a big thing.

You’re not “muddling along” at all. You’re doing great. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, I’d say 🙂

@Inka I think the Libre dispels any concerns that anyone might have about having something attached because it is certainly easy to forget which arm you have it on..... having accidentally scrubbed it off in the shower once or twice 😳 I bought a strap for it to prevent that. I now often sleep in a sports bra because I can tuck my reader into that so that I know exactly where it is if I wake up through the night and need to scan. It is amazing how your brain adjusts to that instinctively and I can wake up, fish the reader out, scan, munch glucose tabs if necessary and go back to sleep in a matter of 20 seconds or less without even putting the light on.... I really do love my Libre!

Anyway, I mustn't hijack @Bluesky 's newbie thread any further. By the way, loving your username but maybe if you give it back some of us can enjoy it.... Not seen much of that for the last month!

Welcome to the forum @Bluesky

Glad to hear your MM780 start is going well
