My name is Annette I've been type 1 for 15 years have posted few times due to on going ketone problems, thanks for responses so far.

I sincerely hope you've been able to get hold of your Diabetes Consultant and get proper medical help re the ketones because they ARE working even if not constantly dealing with us outpatients. Have you?

Hes not seeing anyone face to face, so I now have made a private appointment to see a diabetic consultant at Nuffield, as I desperately need to see some one, and can find no help

I understand precisely why you decided to do that BUT as ketones can be life threatening (you don't need me to tell you that) I'd rather you rang 111.

A&E ARE open !

Whoever you see your insulin regime needs to be reviewed and adjusted.
As you have ketones this is an urgent issue. I was reluctant to use video calls but having had a few of these now I am much more comfortable with them. Would you consider arranging this with your consultant/DSN?

Are you counting your carbs at each meal and have you been taught how to adjust your doses based on this information?

Sorry if you have told us this before and I have missed it.

The NHS111 system is up and running. They are still happy to send ambulances and A and E are still processing those arriving. (just had to try it all out(not for me!)) Unfortunately it does seem to depend on area. My diabetes centre at the hospital appeared to be working but without the queues of people waiting.

There did appear to be a clinic going on. I went to get a replacement meter.

The DSN was a bit stressed because the PPE equipment comes from different suppliers and they open up in different ways so you end up destroying them before you get it on. As she went to put the face screen on the tab you pull to remove the protective covering parted from the film!

If you feel you can't wait for this other consultant try 111

Not been offered, when I rang secretary, last week they said 2 month waiting list, couldn't wait for that. That's why aving private consultation, good job I got savings, I find no support from my diabetes team at this time, they blame everything on covid. Thanks for reply

Sorry to hear how difficult you are finding things @Annette Arundell

I know some diabetes services are really stretched, because their staff are being redeployed, but you really shouldn't be needing to put your savings into private appointments. I will pass this on to Diabetes UK and see if they know more about the situation, amd what level of routine (and urgent!) care you can expect.

Ketones as a result of insult insulin are not good news, especially if BGs are elevated - though odd in your case that the ketones are appearing at lower BGs
