Just a quick hello, I'm May and my husband is called Joe.
Joe has been Type 1 for almost 30 years.
He now has the Libre Sensor, however, at times we are struggling to understand why he suffers from spikes and very much appreciate any hints and tips.
Many thanks

Hi May and welcome to you and Joe

Libre is a wonderful bit of kit and really opens your eyes to what is (and has been) going on between finger pricks... ie most of the time and provides a whole wealth of information which can be a bit surprising.

After meal spikes are pretty common? Is that what he is seeing?
Breakfast time is usually the worst part of the day for this and adjusting the timing of his bolus insulin before breakfast is usually key to fixing it.
I was finding that I needed over an hour between injecting NovoRapid in the morning and eating breakfast to prevent a huge spike but it is a bit less now that I have been changed to Fiasp which is a slightly faster acting insulin. This is however quite an extreme timescale so I would suggest Joe carefully increases his pre-bolus time by 5 mins each day until he finds the best timing for him.
I tend to inject by bolus and basal insulin as soon as I get up and then do my morning ablutions, prepare breakfast and have my coffee and by then I can see my insulin is starting to kick in by the numbers or the arrow on the Libre and I then start eating.
I hope the above helps but if you can give us more info about when he is seeing the spikes, if it is other than after meals, then we will hopefully be able to make other suggestions.

Hello and welcome to the forum @May Rhymer 🙂 glad somebody could help you.
