Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello. My name is Kaff and I have been a type 1 diabetic for 24 years. I am currently not at work due to being a key worker and they can not put measures in to help me social distance. This has had a big effect on my mental health and my blood sugar control. One minute it’s too high and then it’s too low. Has anyone else found this? What has helped you to get it back under control? Any ideas would be great

Welcome to the forum @Kaff3882

Sorry to hear that the lockdown has messed with your diabetes - it seems like it’s going one of two ways for people. Some are finding they have more stability and are able to focus on their BG more which has hugely improved their BG management, while others have found that their regular routines have all been thrown out of the water, and changes in activity levels, plus the opportunities to snack and nibble are making things really tough.

Mood, mental health challenges and stress can also throw a spanner in the works.

Perhaps it’s time for a bit of a ‘diabetes reset’ Maybe a refresher of your carb counting and dose adjustment skills (like https://www.bertieonline.org.uk/ or DUK’s nuts and bolts of carb counting)

Then maybe recheck your basal insulin is set correctly

Before looking at meals, corrections and activity?

Welcome to the forum. It can be quite a knock to no longer be working and 'useful'. Is there anything you enjoy doing you can focus on.
