Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi,

I’ve just found this forum, and currently have extra time on my hands due to self isolating for 12 weeks! I have had type 1 diabetes for around 4 years now.. I’m looking forward to reading through all the threads and finding out lots of information that may make life easier!

Hello @ARow234 and welcome to the forum.
There is a good range of topics covered here, and I hope that you find them of interest.

There are many downsides to isolation, but I am finding as well that it is good to have some time to get to some of those things that I've always meant to do.
Best wishes and I hope that you will keep posting and may be tell us a bit more about yourself.

Yes! Definitely keeping myself busy, I was supposed to be starting my new career but it has been put on hold but I have been given an 8 sheet of documents to learn word for word of by heart, so that is keeping me busy! I am also starting to bake again which is nice as when working I never had the energy to do it! With them and su duko puzzles time is flying by.
I am 26 years old, I believe my last hba1c was around 58 which is the lowest it’s been (year before it was 69). I have now have a freestyle libre which is estimating it now at 44 although I don’t know how accurate that is!

8 sheets of document word by word - whew that really is a challenge! At least the isolation is giving you the time and space to do this. You should be well placed to start your new career when we are all eventually out of isolation

Good to hear that your blood sugar readings are improving, and I'm sure having more time to focus on controlling them will also be a big help.

If you want a change from Suduko then I recently found http://www.word-square.com/ which can provide a bit of a challenge.

Welcome to the forum @ARow234

Do you have additional reasons why you are fully self isolating for 12 weeks? Or was that specifically recommended to you?

Some forum members are choosing to do that, but the official guidance for people with diabetes is to stay indoors as much as possible and to be careful about social distancing whenever we go out, but that we can still go out for exercise or for essential supplies if we need them.

I‘m not sure how long the movement restrictions will remain in place, but this may be helpful to bear in mind as the months roll by!

Thank you! No additional reasons for self isolating, I am having to go out to do shopping but trying to stay in as much as possible. My new employer called me before my start date and advised me to do this, didn’t have any say in it unfortunately! I would much rather be at work and keeping busy!
