Hi Im Elaine and was diagnosed Type 2 diabetic only yesterday so everything is new to me,

Hello Elaine
So good that you have joined the forum, there is plenty of help and support here.
There a lot of things to learn about and maybe some changes for you to make. Can you tell us a little bit about your diagnosis, and what help you are getting from your doctor?

There are 3 main things to consider:
Firstly, healthy eating, and the right solution for you, to lower your blood sugars. There is no 'one size fits all' on this and you need to find out what is right for you. Many of us find that reducing carbohydrate is a good way to lower blood sugars.
Secondly increasing exercise, and thirdly medication which may be necessary depending on what your HB1ac readings are.

I would suggest starting by reading Maggie Davey's letter, which gives a lot of information on how this lady approached the problem.
It does all take time to find what’s right for you and adjust your lifestyle, but please be patient, it will be very worthwhile.

Hope you will let us know how it goes for you and please ask about anything you are concerned about.

Hi @Elaine56 Welcome! You have come to the right place to learn all about it. There are many people on here with varied connections to Diabetes, all with hints and tips to help you get through these difficult few weeks. Loads of discussions and topics, external links too. I would say, dont panic, I know it can be overwhelming but nothing is going to happen to you today, take your time to read, Its actually a very interesting subject when you hear everyone's stories and I have learned loads already. Im sure you will find things that suit you, just remember as @Toucan says there is not one solution, Diabetes is a very individual things. Using a blood glucose monitor is your best friend in this instance. If you are not supplied with one (which T2 usually arent) you can purchase the equipment quite readily). You will see people give advice about those on here too. Ask us anything you like. We are all here to help each other.

Many T2 members here have found Gretchen Becker’s book ‘T2 Diabetes - the first year’ a clear and readable explanation of what type 2 diabetes is all about.

Keep us posted with your progress, and keep asking questions - we have lots of experienced members, and no question you can think of will be thoughtIs as too obvious or ‘silly’.

Welcome to the forum Elaine from a fellow T2.

Hi Elaine.
Welcome to this forum. I was diagnosed as Type II diabetic a week ago today. Very daunting with a reading of 83. My GP has given me the opportunity to diet to reduce my sugar levels and if I can reach 50 I won’t need to go onto tablets. I am working hard and I’ve already lost 2 lb in weight.
This forum is wonderful the people are helpful and are therefore giving advice and support. Always remember you are never alone we are here to help each other.
Good luck and I hope to follow your progress through ttyese changes to our lifestyle.
