Hi and welcome, would be great to know a little more about you if you are willing to share, how did your diagnosis come about? What’s your HbA1c? Do you have a plan to manage things or are you considering your options? You will find loads of information here and a really friendly support network so do ask any questions you might have
Hi peat_68, I wish that I could say I shared Jodee's faith in the DESMOND course, but they vary considerably and many still push the type of diet that is guaranteed to make your T2D get worse!
But don't despair, many people in here (and in other forums) have got their Type 2 Diabetes firmly under control or 'in remission' and have even reversed serious T2 Diabetic symptoms.
My experience of getting it under control is just with a Low Carb High(er) Fat 'way of eating' - not a crash diet which can make things worse in the long run.
Diabetes is a marathon, not a sprint so you need to find something that works for you and is sustainable for you.
hope you are coping OK with your recent diagnosis. It can come as a real shock, but diabetes is a condition that usually responds well to a bit of careful attention, and with a bit of effort and a pinch of luck can be very manageable.
If you’ve not found it already, many new members here find Maggie Davey’s letter a useful overview of T2 diabetes
And AlanS’s ‘test review adjust’ a simple, methodical way of improving blood glucose outcomes around food and understanding how different carbohydrates affect each of us individually.
For a more in depth examination of diabetes, but written in a clear and easily understandable style you could try Gretchen Becker’s book, Type 2 Diabetes the first year
Thanks to everyone for your replies, much appreicated. so I am book in for a DESMOND course but it's not until April . The idagnosis wasn't too big a shock, I have been borderline for the last year, most of my family are T2. I think me stopping exercise probably tipped me over to prediabetic and now new T2 diabetic . Unfortunatly I don't kown what my HbA1c is, patient access at my practice does not provide that under my medical records.
I've been doing a bit od reading and looking at lowering my carb intake and getting a bit more active.
Anyone using/know of a good diet app on Android for T2 ?
Hi peat_68, Actually it's unlikely that stopping exercise alone would tip anybody over into prediabetic or diabetic - stress, illness, medicines such as Steroids and Statins, even lack of sleep can be more significant than a slight reduction in exercise.
It is what you eat and when you eat it that is the biggest factor by far - you can't out-run a poor diet!
What has always been rather useful for me is Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, the 2003 edition - lists of foods, suggested menus and recipes - Low carb with fat has always worked for type two diabetics, the advice goes back into the 1800s.
