Newbie, had my diagnosis confirmed today, just had my chat with the nurse and referrals made. I have been pre diabetic for some time but have now reached the stage where action is needed.

Initial treatment is diet as my HbA1C is currently in the high 40s so let's see how it goes.

Hello and welcome - but I really do despair - you should have got advice on diet long before you became diabetic. Whatever were they thinking?

I hope that you can soon reduce your intake of carbohydrate, starches and sugars, and return to normal levels.

Indeed it is a question to ask.

I have recently moved from the Midlands to Northumberland and it seems my previous medical practice was incompetent, both me and my wife are now getting the care we should have had a long time ago, our new surgery cannot understand why our practice in the Midlands didn't act.

At least we are moving forward

Hello Pitball and welcome to the forum.
There is plenty of help and knowledge on here, so please tell us if there are any particular aspects that you would like to know more about,
Has the nurse made any particular recommendations on diet?
There are several options available and these are all described on the main diabetes website in the Type 2 section.
Many of us on the forum find that a low-carb diet gives good results on lowering blood sugar levels.
There is more information on this on the string 'Information for Newbies' - just scroll down to the Type 2 heading.

Hi and welcome to the forum which you will find very friendly and supportive, glad to hear you now have a good surgery who are willing to help and advise you. Can I suggest you have a good look round the site and come back to us with any questions at all that you may have. There are lots of people here happy to help. Sue

Thanks for the welcomes, Toucan I have been given some advice by the nurse but I have an appointment with a dietician at the end of the month, I work away at the moment so I am the limiting factor to getting appointments.

I have also been enrolled on a couple of courses.

My wife is joining me for these as I believe to change my diet and lifestyle, we both need to be educated as she tends to do the main food shopping when I am away and if she understands what I need I have a better chance of success.

That’s good news @Pitbull sounds like your surgery are on the ball and a good idea to take your wide with you to the courses.

Welcome to the forum @Pitbull

Glad you've found us, but sorry to hear about what brought you here.

Hopefully with the support of the forum and through asking questions and sharing your own experiences you will be able to really turn things around.
