Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Just to say hello to everyone on here. I have just joined. I have been Type 1 diabetic for almost 36 years. It's only taken me this long to accept it might be a good idea to unite with others who live with this condition. I look forward to connecting.

Best wishes to all,
Charlie

Hi Charlie and welcome to the forum. 🙂 I never knew anyone with it but it's good to engage with others and find out how people manage their T1 or just to share any successes or for a rant! The phrase you only get it if you've got it is very true.

Hi Charlie welcome to the forum.🙂 After 36 years you can give us hopefully the benefit of your experience.🙂

Hi Charlie, and welcome to the forum.

I am very pleased to be able to connect with others on here, and have learnt so much from them.
It has also enabled me to keep up with the latest technology.

Hello Charlie and welcome, glad you’ve joined us. 🙂

I didn’t speak to anyone about my diabetes for years until I joined the forum . It’s helped me so much. 🙂

How have things been for you over the years? Are you a pump person or on MDI?

Hi and welcome from me too.

I am guessing many of us newbies could learn from some of your 36 years experience if you have any tips to share?? I hope you find this forum as helpful and beneficial as I have over the past few months and with any luck, the many years to come.

Thank you so much all of you for your warm welcomes. I have been on the Accu-Chek Insight pump since early 2017. It gives me much better control as I was struggling, being many times described as a 'brittle diabetic'. I keep active and these days try to respect and work with my energy levels. I am looking forward to finding out how others experience this condition. I had a tumultuous relationship with my diabetes in the earlier years but have been trying to work more towards an acceptance for the latter part. Joining this forum is partly for me about no longer trying to hide/turn away from/downplay diabetes.

I find it very helpful to think of my Diabetes as an extremely irritating friend, who just wont leave me alone, and I have named her Deidre. Sometimes she stays quiet and just hangs around with me, and other times she just gets in the way and makes her presence felt in no uncertain times, especially when I least want to take any notice of her.

Hello Charlie

The forum is great. I never used to chat to anyone really. I think people thought (and probably still do) that I just count my carbs, have a jab and toddle along with no more effort than that....oh I wish...so I never really wanted to get into chatting about the work needed and extra thought that goes into everything. I’ve learnt a lot the since joining, especially about the latest technology and all sorts of hints and tips. It is nice to know there are others who “get it”....I find that quite comforting.

Anyhoo, welcome along.🙂

Hello Charlie, I’m T2 but just wanted to say welcome as whether T1 or T2 we all support each other as we are all on the same road but with varying ‘humps’. I’m sure with your experience you will be a great asset to the site x
