Hello
Just newly diagnosed with Type2, my HbA1c is 61 and at time of my first bloods was 135kg (21st 3lbs) . Now am currently 126kg (19st 11lbs) so moving in the right direction, am taking metformin 2 times a day, but been told to increase to 4 times a day. Been on Poppio diet and exercising (walking, static bike ) daily.

Hello
Thanks for the reply. Presently no I have been told that I am to use metformin so no meter.

Many thanks I am looking to get a counter 🙂

Hi there and welcome to the forum 🙂

Unfortunately they have been making cuts with Type 2's on prescribing meters etc, my mother in law had her strips on prescription stopped last year

The cheapest meter to self fund that we know of is the SD Codefree meter, there are quite a few of our members use it, I myself don't have any experience with it

If see your post in the what did you eat yesterday thread as well which I would imagine would be pushing your levels up quite a bit but it's better to get them down slowly

Any questions always feel free to ask 🙂
xx

I suspect that the 'lose weight' advice is to give you something you can measure easily day to day - but if you are not getting lower blood glucose levels then its rather a waste of effort.
For many type twos eating low carb foods will be a powerful tool to get you back to normal levels - I just wish that drs and nurses would point out to the newly diagnosed or anyone not improving their numbers, that type two diabetes is all about being unable to deal with the carbs in a modern 'healthy' diet, not go on about exercise and weightloss - as though that is going to solve the problem.

Most people think that diabetes is all about sweet stuff and cutting down on the likes of cakes and biscuits and sweets is all that is required. I think that health care professionals could do with explaining exactly what "low carb" means. ie. cutting right back on breakfast cereals/porridge, bread, potatoes, pasta, rice and noodles etc as well as the sweet stuff. I wasted a couple of months before I got it figured out. My nurse just recommended smaller portions of wholemeal/wholegrain varieties, which I was already eating anyway. I never even thought about my breakfast porridge.

Hi @Rogerbee and welcome we are all here to help you should you need or listen if you wish

Sorry, Drummer, but anyone diagnosed at 21st definitely needs to get their weight down. It won't cure their diabetes for sure but from what I've read it will take some of the pressure off their pancreas to the point where it can more easily cope. I thought a healthy weight, low carb diet and more exercise was the universal advice that people are given when diagnosed.

I found I had lost almost 50lb by concentrating on my blood glucose levels - but only realised it when my clothes started to slide South.
There was absolutely nothing wrong with my pancreas as far as I know - it was belting out the insulin, just being ignored.
I just got my blood glucose levels down to no more than 8 after meals and stuck to that way of eating, and my blood glucose levels went on going down - that is why I feel they are the key to what to do - plus it was easy.

Hi David I got this meter https://www.amazon.co.uk/Codefree-G...odefree+meter&qid=1562939801&s=gateway&sr=8-2 a lot of people buy it as it's a good price and I believe the test strips are the cheapest,I have gone low carb cutting out bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, cereals, oats etc, and have a 2 mile brisk walk each morning, you have done well with the weight loss,I bet your going to lose a load more
