Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi everyone
I'm Amanda this is all new to me but i think it's gonna help me alot to talk to people that actually understand what i am going through.
I've had a bad year with my diabetes, my hb1c has been 12!
I've been living with this god awful problem for 16 years so you think i would be used to it but lately i suppose im going through a rebeleous period 😡. I'm not doing my tests as much as i should, sometimes leaving days between testing they really hurt at the moment so thats another reason why i'm not doing them other than being lazy. I'm feeling really down atm and sorry for myself which i hate. My boyfriend and famiy support me soo much i dont know where i would be without them. I just have no motivation to exercise or look after myself but i dont wanna go and talk to the docs about it cause i dont feel they help or understand properly.
The good news though i went to the docs at the end of march and my hb1c is 8 🙂 the lowest its been in a long time.
Sorry for the long note but i think talking is gonna help.

Hi Mandy, welcome to the forum.

Well done on getting your HBa1C down to 8 from 12 that's really good.

Mandy, so pleased you joined - welcome to the forum 🙂 Believe me you are not alone - a lot of people have joined here with similar stories. There is lots of experience and support here and I think that knowing that others know exactly how you feel can be a great boost to your motivation. You don't have to feel that any question is silly or that you should know it already - many people who have been diagnosed a long time have not been kept uo to date with the latest treatment regimes and methods, but the great thing about this place is that there are loads of people really clued up about things and happy to help out.

What sort of insulin and regime are you on at the moment? Sounds like you're already making a good stab at getting the HbA1c down, so you're obviously doing something right! 🙂

I'm on 4 injections a day: humalog between 8-16 units and glargine at night 36 units.
With the help of my boyfriend im trying to do more exercises like running but as i said before the motivation just isn't there anymore. I really want to tone up and loose weight so i need to find it frm somewhere! Just does my head in sometime you know :( x

Hi Mandy

It is really common for people with Diabetes to feel depressed and it is OK to tell the Dr. Each time I go to the Dr they ask me am I depressed.
I know you have done really well with your HBA1C but ask your team about DAFNE, it is nice to meet other diabetics face to face, as for bm's hurting, do you not have a soft clicks or multi clix I have had one since they came out and had, had my grey one for about 16 years, I only called and asked for a new one last year. They are they best finger prickers. They come with Accu-chek blood test machines. Why don't you ask your team for a new machine that always helps motivate me for a while. to have a new toy.
so in short Hi. Go to Dr its OK Diabetes is horrid.

Hi Mandy welcome to the forum. Well done on getting your hba1c down from 12 to 8, that is a fantastic reduction.

Ask any questions you want, or just have a whinge (sp???) at us when you need.

Sounds like you are a bit like me at mo..I used to have good control with my HBa1c between 6 and 7. However it has slowly crept up over the last year or so and is now 10:( I am trying hard to get it back down and feel like over the last 4 weeks or so my control has been much better. I'm hoping that next time I have my HBa1c tested it'll be around 7 - fingers crossed!! Think I was beginnning to take my diabetes for granted (been diabetic for aaaaaggges) but have realised that I can't do that and that I need to accept it (or re-accept it) and make the most of it!!

Thats exactly what i've been doing got to re-accept it again, i dont think i ever did really cause i was diagnosed the day before my 6th birthday so i've grown up with it but never really questioned it if you know what i mean.
I'm hoping to get my hba1c down even further and aiming for 6 before my hoilday 😛

Sounds very similar to me - I can't remember life without diabetes - was 3 when I was diagnosed. Think we should go into competition - you're beating me already!! When are you having your next HBa1c test done??🙂

Yea that sounds good, will help us get our hba1cs down :D
my next appointment is in august so i'm really hoping it will go down further however me and my boyfriend are off the mexico in july so that bound to have some affect on the tests x

Hey everyone
Hope everyone is good!
Just to say i went for a mega run yesterday (well it was mega for me lol) finally starting to get motivated woop woop :D

Well done Mandy! I've finally crawled out of my Winter cocoon and started running regularly - so much easier to get motivated when it is bright and sunny! Although it's not warm yet - it was very chilly at 7 o'clock this morning!😱

Don't overdo it, and try and vary your exercise, that way you will get fitter and stronger. It will have such a great effect on your levels too - watch out for unexpected hypos and remember that you may need to reduce your insulin. Keep up the good work! :D

Hi Mandy

I know I'm a little late but just wanted to welcome you to the forum. It seems like it is already helping you 😉 I'm trying to tone up and loose weight too after just having had a baby so I know how you feel. Wanted to say well done also for getting your hba1c from 12 to 8 that is just amazing xx
