Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi
My name is Nick and it would appear that I may have type 2 diabetes. Not actually had it confirmed by a doctor but last year I was having some issues and had blood tests which came back as borderline. I improved my diet and sugar consumption and on a second set of tests things had improved.

Unfortunately I didn't really keep on top of things and had my blood sugar tested a fortnight ago and it was 16.2.
I understand this is not good and want to try and get things under control by initially improving my diet.

All advice welcome

Regards
Nick

Hi Nick, welcome to the forum 🙂 do you know that it’s not just sugars that you need to cut? Carbohydrates are the biggest enemy, things like pasta, rice, potatoes and bread are all high carbs and will push your blood glucose levels up so you really need to reduce or cut these out. Fruit is also a bad sugar source, the recommended is no more than two small pieces a day and avoid the tropical ones like mango, pineapple. Best thing you can do is make a cuppa and read....read as many back posts as you can as everything you need to know is here, then ask any questions you might have :D

Welcome to the forum, Nick. 🙂

Thank you both

Yes I do understand that it's not just sugar and that carbs play a big part. If it was just sugar then it would be easy.

I am trying to get an understanding of things that I can try to do to help myself.

I enjoy cooking so playing about with recipes isn't a problem although I am probably my worst enemy as regular meals has always been something of a problem. The hot weather wont have helped as cider and black currant is my tipple of the moment and rocket lollys are eaten like there will be the great rocket famine of 2018. Although I haven't bought any for two weeks.

I gave up smoking almost two years ago to help my health and now this, I wonder on times why did I bother

Well, it's your pancreas that's a bit dodgy now and your lungs are getting better. I gave up 12 years ago and I'm glad I did as smoking is no good for Diabetes....or anything really. Good luck on tackling this thing 🙂
