Well I've been following the forums since I was diagnosed with type two ten days ago and finally signed up🙂

Given that I also have Sarcoids and the US forum for that is all doom and gloom, its great to see a site that positively encourages people!

No major story here really, had a kidney stone a month ago and thats when they found the high blood sugars (13.9)

Was actually trying to get back on my sarc meds has was having trouble breathing at the time (Stress mainly) and from there it was a fasting test and then ketone? to see if it was type 1.

Handed a Bayer Contour meter and sent on my way (no instructions in use, my wife 'was' a nurse but a) I refused to let her do the BG readings, its my life and b) She hates needles! Go figure.

Local GP is great, mainly due to other disease but since then its been like your standing alone at a cliff edge.

Searched the net, found you lot🙂, changed my eating habits to 3 per day and bloods are down to 5.2 - 8.2 depending on days.

A full week later (since I was 'rushed in') saw the PN, looked at my weight and BG's and basically said your fine!

Asked about kidney function tests, retinal digital stuff, feet thingy and was told a letter will be sent out in six months or so😉 Pressed the eat more or less carb argument and she pushed the eat loads of carbs side.

Received the 'dietician' invite letter yesterday, please ring this number and leave a message as they don't man it full time (NHS taking Diabetes seriously then!).

So, overall rather underwhelmed with the whole process really!

Still going through the compulsive self testing 'cant eat that or my sugars will go above 7.8' route but seem to have stabilized so far.

Have sarcoids clinic thurs and will be interesting as neither side now wants to prescribe me anything due to complications of T2.

Ho hum🙂

Hi Keaver, welcome to the forum🙂 Hopefully, you will find answers to any of your questions here - remember that no question is considered silly! A good book to give you a good start is Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year - An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed by Gretchen Becker.

You're doing pretty well from the sounds of your levels! Try not to be too obsessed, or despondent if you get some higher levels occasionally - diabetes can sometimes try and trip you up!

Thanks🙂 Book already ordered, should arrive today. Tried the Diabetes for Dummies ( was ok) and also the AWT Cookbook, which as I'm an avid cook I would recommend (but you can also really just adjust other cookbooks if you can be bothered).
