Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello there all, I'm kate am 28 from Blackpool Lancashire and I'm a type 1 struggling diabetic. Before I was diagnosed in 2015 I never bothered with sweets now I want them constantly and on occasion I give in. My bloods are all over the place and I am working to get them right. I have a 7 month old little boy and am a stay at home mum at the moment.

Hi and welcome 🙂
Very cute baby 🙂

Hi Katie, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear that you are struggling :( What insulin are you on? Try not to get overwhelmed by everything, just take small steps towards improving things. Have you been on a diabetes education course, like DAFNE? If not, do ask your team about what is available to you. Often, just meeting others in the same situation can give you a renewed determination to manage things better, and you don't feel quite so isolated.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, there is a lot of knowledge and experience here, and most of us can understand what you are going through because we've been there too {{{HUGS}}}

Hi Katie and a warm welcome to our supportive forum. Lurve your cutie babe x

Hi Katie, welcome to the forum and sorry to hear you are struggling. It must be hard to be a new Mum and have to manage diabetes, it's not long since your diagnose and there is so much to take in. Do ask any question here and I hope you have good support with your DSN or consultant.
Does your little cutie sleep through the night and are you tired? I am thinking back to when mine were that little, it's hard to not crave sugar when tired. It may be helpful to have lower carb protein snacks as a pick you up for those moments! Good luck with everything.

Hi Katie

As @New-journey said, I think being tired and dealing with a new born makes us crave that sugar rush for an energy burst. I know when my little boy was tiny my diabetes care went a little out of the window.

I’d agree with trying to have snacks that are filling and low carb around so when you are craving you can have something that hopefully won’t spike you.

Congrats on your little one. I’m sure others will be able to help more but please just be kind to yourself - having a new born is tough and exhausting.

Just try to prioritise eating regularly and testing lots - easier said than done sometimes!
