Hello all,

I think I'm on the right forum this time. Just diagnosed with Type 1 a couple of weeks ago. I've been reading replies and found the information really interesting. I really haven't got a clue at the moment but I'm sure I'll learn.

Hi Locar =)
Welcome to the best place on the net hehe.

Everyone is soo helpful and full of support and answers to any questions no matter how silly you think they are. Ask away =)

Hope you get as much out of here as I have =)

Hi Locar, welcome to the forum.

Hello welcome, but sorry you have had to join us. Ask any questions you want, or just have a rant when you need to let off some steam to people who understand what you are going through.

Hi Locar, and welcome 🙂

As has been said, everyone's really friendly here - they were all very helpful to me when I was diagnosed last year. Ask away with questions. Someone will be able to help, I'm sure! 🙂

🙂 Hello and welcome. I was diagnosied type 1 last year and there are some helpful souls here who've made me feel a lot better about it. Can be confusing when you first start (and even a year after you first started) - any questions, just ask

Thank you

Thank you all so very much, your replies are really appreciated. At he moment my health care team are trying to bring down my levels, I think they think they are a little higher than they should be, 22+, so just hoping it all settles down, though I don't know how long it takes.

Hi Locar and welcome to the forum.:D

It can take a few weeks to get things right - and even then things can change again - your body will probably still be producing insulin so things can change a lot in the beginning. You have joined a great place and if you need any help we are all here for you.🙂Bev

Hi Bev, thank you. Since leaving hospital last week after levels and keytones went a bit mad, I still don't really understand why there was such a panic over the keytones but they gave me enough IV fluids to sink a ship. Hopefully I'll see the nurse again this week and sort out the units I need to take. The nuse did say that eventually I would learn to adjust the units depending on what I was doing. Though very early days yet, I'm looking forward to controlling my diabetes, just a bit hesitant about retuning to work and having to inject during the day. Appreciate your time.

Hi Locar

They panic when your ketones go mad because too high a concentration of ketones makes your blood potentially more acidic than it should be ('ketoacidosis'); it makes you feel lousy and can - in extremis - induce weakness and coma and death and things, so best to dilute them with some iv fluids before it gets to that point.

Good luck with going back to work, when YOU are feeling ready.... Hopefully injecting will become second nature to you before you know it....
